About love for Limburg’s railway heritage
In order to keep the Miljoenenlijn, which was preserved for posterity in 1988 thanks to the efforts of four enthusiasts, running, more than 270 (!) proud volunteers are actively involved. Various work groups take care of the maintenance of the track, bridges, tunnels, buildings and historic railway equipment. Thanks to their efforts, Limburg’s railway heritage has been kept in motion for more than 30 years.
In the premises and along the track, volunteers ensure that everything is kept in proper shape and looks neat. In the workshop, steam and diesel locomotives and carriages are technically maintained and, if necessary, restored. This work can be quite heavy and almost always results in dirty hands. The volunteers don’t care about the dirt. Because say for yourself, what is more beautiful than working on an old locomotive? Pure craftsmanship and a dose of perseverance are also the keys to success here. Now, the work on a steam locomotive is never really finished. The volunteers of the Miljoenenlijn know that all too well. Even with one hand in front of your eyes, you can still see ten years of work ahead of you’, is a frequently heard statement. And that could well be true!
The office at Simpelveld Station is also a hive of activity. Everything is arranged from here, so that everything runs smoothly and travellers can enjoy all the beauty that the hills of South Limburg have to offer!

Board of the Stichting Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (South Limburg Steam Train Company Foundation)
The Stichting Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (ZLSM) was set up with the aim of preserving Limburg’s cultural railway heritage. To achieve that goal, it operates a regular tourist train service using steam and historic diesel locomotives between Schin op Geul and Kerkrade and between Simpelveld and Vetschau in Germany. The operation of the train company is accommodated in the operating company ZLSM Bedrijf BV. The Foundation is the 100% shareholder in this operating company.
